MediaMonkey, the popular media management software, has now been released for Windows 8 and Windows RT, and is now available to install from the official Windows Store. For those who’re not aware of MediaMonkey, it’s one of the better applications available to manage and organize media collections on a computer running Windows operating system.

The current release of MediaMonkey app lets you manage music, videos, podcasts, and audiobooks and supports popular audio and videos formats, including MP3, M4a, OGG, FLAC, and WMA. You can edit tags, create playlists and edit them. Another awesome feature is that you can stream contents from media servers over UPnP/DLNA.

As with the case of the desktop version, MediaMonkey app for Windows 8 includes a media player with an equalizer. Unlike the most other media player apps out there in the Store, this one supports subtitles as well.

The interface of the app is simple, straight-forward and easy to navigate. However, first time users may find it difficult to add new files to the library as the option to add or remove folders is located under Settings. To add folders and start the scanning folders, point the mouse cursor to the upper-right corner to see the Charms bar, click Settings, and then click Scan for media. You can also find several general, sync, and playback options under Settings.

As with the case of other popular software, MediaMonkey app is missing some of the powerful features and options present in the desktop version. So if you’re on Windows 8 or Windows 8 Pro and looking for a truly powerful software to organize your media, we advise you download the desktop version of the software instead.
