Celerra Manager reports cookies error when attempting to open in the Browser. One of the problems could be the Host name of Control Station contains a “_” (underscore) character. Even with cookies enabled, the browser reports that “cookies need to be enabled in order to access this web page”. Or even when Control Station is added to list of “Trusted Sites” in Internet Explorer it fails to login. Set the default value for trusted sites in Internet Explorer to low. The use of underscores in hostnames is an RFC violation and, while Internet Explorer will connect to a name using an underscore, it will not store cookies for hostnames with underscores. The behavior in Internet Explorer is explained by Microsoft which states: “No Support for “_” in Host Names:

The browser does not accept cookies if a host name contains the underscore character (_). Since Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 and MS Internet Explorer 5.5 including security patch MS01-055 cannot accept any domain names with underscore characters, session cookies cannot be saved. This will result in terminations when navigating within a Web application.

To resolve the issue, rename the Control Station so that it does not contain an underscore ( _ ) in the name or connect to Celerra Manager using the Control Station’s IP address instead.
