Below you will find a how to with regarding to installing PowerGUI for vCenter formerly known as Vmware Virtual Center. Install everything on the vCenter server!

  1. How to install, first download all the applications you need:
    • Download the VMware VI Toolkit for Windows.
    • Download the VMware.VIToolkit.powerpack.
    • Download the PowerGUI v.1.7.1.702 – an extensible graphical administrative console and IDE for managing systems based on Windows PowerShell. The latest version is now 1.7.1.702. So when the download is not functioning well, try the homepage and download the latest version from there.
    • Download Windows Powershell 1.0. Here you can find the downloads for Windows XP, Server 2003 or Windows Vista. It depends on your operating system.
  2. OK now you’r ready for installing all the above downloads.
    • Login to the vCenter server (formerly known as Vmware Virtual Center)
    • Go to the location where you saved your Vmware VI Toolkit for Windows and install it.
    • Ok you find it Wink. Install it by double clicking on it. It’s just a matter of Next, Next Finish
    • Now you need to install Powershell for Windows.
    • Install it by double clicking.
    • After installing Powershell for Windows you install PowerGUI
    • Install it by double clicking. It’s just a matter of Next, Next Finish
    • Note here that you do not install the VMware VI Client integration as marked RED the first time. It will not work because of the fact that your VMware.VIToolkit.powerpack. isn’t installed. After the installation you can install it again and check this cestion again. Then it will work.
    • Open the “PowerGUI Admin Console”
    • In the PowerGUI Admin Console, right-click the root node and select the Import menu command.
    • Import the VMware.VIToolkit.powerpack file that you downloaded in step 1 action 2.
    • After importing, expand the “VMware” folder
    • Select the “Managed VMware Hosts” node and use the “Add connection” action to start adding the VMware hosts you want to manage with the VMware PowerPack.
    • Once you have added VMware hosts that you will manage, use any of the subnodes of the Managed VMware Hosts node to manage VMware objects or the host itself
